The 25th edition of the East Westphalian Gerry Weber Open tournament is on. From 17th to 25th of June the ATP tournament will traditionally be held between the two Grand-Slams Roland-Garros (French Open) and Wimbledon. The tournament in Halle is considered as direct preparation for the third Grand-Slam of the season, Wimbledon, which will take place on the so-called “sacred grass” in London.

The first preparations to this are in full swing, so there was already the insertion of the lawn to the GERRY WEBER STADIUM. Tournament Director Ralf Weber was personally on site when the lawn was laid. Ralf Weber proudly said: “We are close to the lawn of Wimbledon”. It needs meticulous preparations to obtain the excellent quality of such a lawn. The British greenkeeper Phil Thorn and his team nurture the rye grass every day, which has already been sown last year and is known for being hard-wearing. To a total of 400 single 2 meters x 1 meter palettes the lawn gets driven into the stadium and is put together on the 800-square-meter Center Court.

The maintenance of the consistent high quality of the lawn is ensured by extra installed lawn aeration, heating and refrigeration systems. The interaction of the technology developed for the Gerry Weber Open provides a reduction of moisture on the blade of grass, so the lawn can exhibit a relative solid surface and the tennis stars play on an perfect pitch.

RAVENOL as the official lubricant partner of the Gerry Weber Open provides high-quality products for the entire fleet and greenkeeping area of the event. For instance, the lawnmower is provided with RAVENOL 4-Takt Gardenoil HD 30 (lawnmower-oil). Due to the special composition of additives this particular lubricant ensures proper function, it offers corrosion protection, it prevents black sludge formation, even if the engine is heavily used.

Paul Becher (director RAVENOL) explains: “We are very pleased to be a partner of such a great and prestigious event like the Gerry Weber Open and we are filled with proud to see RAVENOL products come into action. That is how we contribute to the success”. Paul Becher continues: “In the meanwhile we are firmly established in major international sports: if it is our flagship motorsports, in club football with Borussia Mönchengladbach, or yet with the ATP-tournament in tennis. It is our target to keep our role as a reliable partner and supplier”.
