Double pole, double victory and place two in the reversed grid: everything went according to plan for Neuhauser Racing pilot and league leader Mikkel Jensen, on the fourth racing weekend of the ADAC Formula Masters, the team's home match on the Red Bull Ring. Tim Zimmermann usually came in one of the first places in the dress rehearsal for the first Formula-1 race in Austria after an eleven-years break as well.
"Things couldn't have gone better on my favourite track," Mikkel Jensen rejoices at the end of the Pentecost weekend. "I even had victory in sight in a third race, because my car's speed was incredible."
The Dane can be very happy with his three podium positions – two on the highest step. Since his direct competitors had some bad luck in the championship, he was able to clearly improve his leadership in the overall result.
The first two races were a quick story for the Neuhauser pilot: he was in the lead from the beginning and raced towards victory from the start without being in serious danger of losing his position.
The third race was a bit different. It started in the reversed grid. The first eight positions started in reverse order, which put Mikkel Jensen in eighth position. While he made it to the front quickly, the race was suddenly interrupted by a safety car phase and the league leader's progress was halted a little. After the restart, he was involved in duels for the front positions, finally coming in second.
Team colleague Tim Zimmermann impressed with an extremely strong performance in time training with starting positions two and four.
In the races, the formula rookie was involved in many fights and even ended up in the gravel bed through no fault of his own in the very first lap.
Zimmermann made fifth place in race 2, and held the same in the third race as well after the safety car phase and the restart.
"My races were dominated by many duels and I learned a lot. I am quite happy with two fifth places, but I will try to be on the podium again in Slovakia," the pilot promoted by ADAC Stiftung Sport says.
With the successes on the Red Bull Ring, Neuhauser Racing also recovered the team valuation leadership that it had lost in Lausitz recently. It is a very small lead of only five points, but they want to successfully defend it on the Slovakia Ring from 8 to 10 August, the next appearance of the ADAC Formula Masters. Of course, the same holds true for the championship lead of Mikkel Jensen and the fifth league rank of Tim Zimmermann.
