Adac Procar: The double-winners of Zolder: Lestrup, Glatzel and Kirsch

The sweltering summer temperatures at the Belgian circuit of Zolder demanded everything from the drivers and their touring cars.

In Division 1 the front row of the grid belonged to Fredrik Lestrup and Kai Jordan, and right behind them started Heiko Hammel and Reinhard Nehls. Hammel had earlier been forced to finish qualifying early due to damage to his drive shaft, and hoped that things would go better for him during the race. The Wolf Racing driver made it as far as the penultimate lap before having to park up his Fiesta ST with a gear box problem. After Reinhard Nehls had retired after twice skidding to a stop on the track because of a torn tube, the path was clear for Johannes Leidinger, following closely in third place behind the two dominant Division 1 MINIs of Fredrik Lestrup and Kai Jordan.

In Division 2, the ETH Tuning team was made to sweat even more. The gear-box change in the Citroen Saxo of pole-sitter Andreas Rinke was finished only just before the beginning of the race. Unfortunately these labours did not pay off, as Rinke remained glued to the start-line with a sheered drive-shaft. Consequently Ralf Glatzel was able to take the lead in his Ford Fiesta, with Matthias Meyer in the Peugeot 207 in hot pursuit. Over the course of the race the latter became involved with the rapidly advancing Dominique Schaak – the two were caught up in an extremely close but fair duel, which Ralf Glatzel was easily able to drive away from. Meyer was able to fend off further attacks from Schaak, and the duel lasted right up to the finish line. Meyer gave it everything he had in order to defend himself, even crossing the line with a flat front tire. He was rewarded with the second place finish he deserved for his efforts, with Schaak coming in a very close third.
