At its home race in the Austrian town of Spielberg, Team Neuhauser Racing was able to drive away from Zell am Ziller with its first podium finish of the year, also having picked up more important points for the overall ranking. Over three races, littered with accidents and safety-car periods, Tim Zimmerman from Langenargen drove to a second place finish in the second race. The Wümbach-born Kim Luis Schramm finished in 6th place in the third race of the weekend, equalling his best finish of the season so far.
Neuhauser Racing took several things away from the Red Bull Ring in its native Zillertal Alps last weekend (5th – 7th June). Alongside a podium finish for 18-year old driver Tim Zimmerman and other good rankings for both the Neuhauser drivers, the team has shown that it can compete for victory in every race. “Since the opening race in Oschersleben, we’ve done a lot of work to the car”, said Team Boss Hannes Neuhauser. “And now this work has paid off”.
This trend was obvious as early as qualifying. Both Kim Luis Schramm and Tim Zimmerman set good times, one after the other. In the final spurt, though, it was Zimmerman who managed to add just that little bit extra. He mustered his best sectors in one lap and occupied fourth and second spots for the first two races. Schramm was not quite so lucky, and had to content himself with 12th and 14th spots.
In the first race both drivers made good progress. Zimmerman held on to the 4th place he started in, and Schramm soon worked his way a couple of places further up the field. His advance up the pack was then abruptly halted by a collision. The 17 year-old Schramm lost his front wing and fell back to 15th place. Tim Zimmerman also encountered problems – he had some difficulty with changing gears and in the meantime dropped back to be listed as seventh. Towards the end of the race, however, he fought his way back up to 5th place and brought in valuable points for the overall ranking. “That was a great result”, said Hannes Neuhauser. “All the same, we knew that we could do better, so overnight we tried to get more out of the car”.
the team’s efforts seemed to pay off in the second race. Kim Luis Schramm set about fighting his way through a huge pack, climbing from 12th to 8th place. Tim Zimmerman was even out in the lead at the start, but lost his position after a restart to two-time winner Joel Eriksson. Thus the driver from Langenargen crossed the line in second place, securing the first podium finish for himself and his team, as well as the trophy they had wished for at their home race in Spielberg. “Both boys did a great job in this race”, proclaimed Neuhauser. “To compete against this pack and then stay out at the front is an incredible achievement.”
In the third race this was certainly proven to be true. After starting in 6th place, Tim Zimmerman was involved in a big crash just after the first corner and had to retire from the race. Kim Luis Schramm was luckier, passing by the commotion and carrying on. In a race filled with accidents and two red-flags, Schramm finally drove into a 6th placed finish – his best result of the season. “It’s great that Kimi could go out of the weekend with this sense of achievement” said the Team Boss. “He had a lot of bad luck in the first race and now he’s shown that he’s one to be reckoned with. It’s obviously a shame for Tim that he was mixed up in the accident, but he also had a really good weekend.”
The season continues for the Team from Zell am Ziller and the whole ADAC Formula 4 in two weeks (19th – 21st June) for the third race weekend of the series, at Spa/Francorchamps in Belgium.
