The Hilmer Motorsport team had a successful race weekend in the GP2 at the "Home of British Motor Racing". Franz Hilmer's team took a total of 12 points home with them and started from pole position on Sunday at Silverstone, just as they did in the Red Bull Ring. Two Britons represented the team from Niederwinkling with Nick Yelloly (#24) and Jon Lancaster (#25) in the British GP. Lancaster, who drove for Hilmer Motorsport in the GP2 in 2013 and 2014, returned to the team for the race on his home turf at Silverstone. Unfortunately his weekend did not begin very well when Lancaster developed engine trouble in training. His engine had to be changed shortly before Qualifying. Although the team worked very hard to get the car ready on time for the time trials they failed, and Lancaster missed out on Qualifying. Nevertheless, the racing management allowed to him to take part in the race. The driver from Leeds put up a good chase on Saturday and made up ten places. On Sunday he crossed the finish line in 17th. His team colleague Nick Yelloly displayed his talent over the whole weekend and was able to show the impressive potential in both driver and team. He finished fourth in training and appeared very content with his car. In Qualifying he was unfortunately stuck in traffic and had no free lap. Starting the race in 11th, the GP2 rookie from Solihull was easily able to keep up with the DAMS and ART cars. Yelloly crossed the finish line in 8th but was evaluated in 7th due to 7th placed Arthur Pic being penalised, and Yelloly picked up six championship points. This meant that because of the reverse starting order, the top 8 in the main race were able to participate in the sprint race from the front row the following Sunday, including Yelloly. In the Red Bull Ring, Yelloly started the race in pole position. In the sprint race at Silverstone he started in second place. Unfortunately, as in Austria, Yelloly didn't start well and fell back to sixth. Yelloly fought with his competitors for the positions up until the last lap and with some spectacular overtaking manoeuvres he propelled himself up to fifth place, gaining six more championship points.
The Hilmer Motorsport team is moving on up, and the past race weekend in Silverstone showed that the team is a serious contender in the fight for podium places and is on a level with the main championship contenders. The sixth race of the GP2 series takes place from the 24th to the 26th of July in Budapest in Hungary, where Hilmer Motorsport will again attempt to lead the pack.
