First win for Markus Pommer in the FIA Formula 3 European Championships

For Markus Pommer the Dutch Zandvoort trip was a worthwhile experience: On Saturday he managed his first podium placing on the 4,307 kilometre-long, former Formula 1 track in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship, and one day later he celebrated his first victory.

This was the first triumph for his Motopark team in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship. Behind the German, Antonio Giovinazzi (JagonyaAyamwithCarlin) and Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) saw the checkered flag. Because league leader Charles Leclerc (van Amersfoort Racing) did not finish in the first ten places, Giovinazzi rose to top the driver's leaderboard in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

Markus Pommer laid the foundation stone to his success when he overtook Antonio Giovinazzi, who started in pole position, on the way to the first curve, taking the lead. On the third lap, Solomon (Double R Racing) spun into the gravel and got stuck there. To rescue his vehicle, the racing management sent the Safety Car on for a lap. A further two laps after the restart, Mikkel Jensen (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) had an accident and the Safety Car was called out again.

The race was restarted in the eleventh lap, but this time the youngster of the FIA Formula 3 European Championship didn't get far. Gustavo Menezes (JagonyaAyamwithCarlin) and Nicolas Pohler (Double R Racing) collided, causing the Safety Car to be deployed once again. After the third restart there were still three laps to race, and Markus Pommer finished first, rejoicing in his first victory in the FIA Formula 3 European Championship.

Behind Pommer was Antonio Giovinazzi, who was glad that he'd come second, and third was Felix Rosenqvist. Jake Dennis (Prema Powerteam), the best rookie Lance Stroll (Prema Powerteam), George Russell (Carlin), SérgioSetteCâmara (Motopark), Alexander Albon (Signature), Santino Ferrucci (kfzteile24 Mücke Motorsport) and Charles Leclerc (Van Amersfoort Racing) completed the top ten.
