The SAXOPRINT Racing Team Germany riders proved that they can compete with the best in the world during the last two days of practice sessions. However, one had hoped for a little bit more from today’s of the racing weekend climax. Both world championship drivers had the aim of ending up with some points. Unfortunately, only one of them, Alexis Masbou, managed this. With eight additional points he overtakes his team colleague John McPhee in the overall rankings, and now sits in 12th position on the leaderboard. John goes into the summer break without any additional points. He crossed the finish line in the GoPro Motorcycle Grand Prix Germany in 17th place. The Wildcard rider from SAXOPRINT RTG, Max Kappler, tried too hard and crashed, ending his race prematurely.
Alexis Masbou: P8 (+10.266): "I am happy with the race. We finished and had no real problems over the whole weekend, except for the small crash yesterday. Everything was quite good. But I am also a little sad as I fought hard to get onto the podium, but that just didn't happen. But I'm glad that I was able to keep up with the leaders. All in all, it was not a bad weekend.“
John McPhee: P17 (+29.218): "The race didn't start too well for me. Right from the start it was clear to me that it was going to be a hard race. I didn't manage to find the right grip. Then during the race I had to change my riding style slightly and attempted to ride different lines. But that didn't really work either, although I gave my best. Now we have a three week break and I will do my best to be convincing in Indianapolis with a strong performance.“
Max Kappler: Unclassified "The race result didn't really fit to the story of the weekend as a whole. Nevertheless, this time it was my mistake. Up to my fall it was a really good race. My lap times are certainly improving. I was able to hold my own with the pack and we managed to close the gap in front of us. I think it could have been a good race. Now we have to look forwards.“
Dirk Heidolf: (Team boss): "I am quite content with the race result. We had some luck in the fact that we were able to move Alexis up two starting places due to the new regulations. Alexis has shown that he is a podium candidate. He was in third for a short time but unfortunately he couldn't maintain this position. We didn't manage to get to grips with the problem of brake stability yet.
It looked good for John in the meantime. He had been able to make good some places after the start. But at the end, he managed to finish only in 17th position.
Max tried to give everything, but it's in the nature of the sport that one falls off sometimes. It is a pity that he wasn't able to repeat his great achievements of last year again.“
