Last weekend the Norisring in Nuremburg, often called the “Frankish Monaco”, hosted the FIA Formula 3 European Championship as part of the DTM – Formula 3 is effectively the most important racing category of the World Automobile Federation (FIA) below Formula 1.
Van Amersfoort driver Charles Leclerc drove to two podium finishes in three races at the 2.3km Norisring, finishing as victor in one of them, and thereby maintaining his overall lead at the top of the table. After crossing the line in 3rd place at the second race of the weekend, in the third race he finished a close 4th, still being rewarded with points despite missing out on a full-house of podium finishes.
Currently the Monegasque driver is at the top of the pack with 239.5 points, ahead of the Italien Antonio Giovinazzi (Jagonya Ayam with Carlin) on 227 points and the Swede Felix Rosenqvist (Prema Powerteam) on 203 points. With 345.5 points in the “rookie-ratings” for newcomers to the series, he is also streets ahead of his nearest rival, the Brit George Russel, currently sitting on 217 points. Leclerc’s team (Van Amersfoort Racing) currently occupies 2nd place in the team ratings.
