Last weekend, the 7th Baltic Sea Rallye took place in the Grömitz area. Since this was a race for the German Rallye championships, the Bavarian/Austrian duo took the trip of almost 1100 km to the tourist centre.
The team Gassner jr. / Mayrhofer was already placed in the der Baltic Sea Rallye last year, for the first time presenting themselves with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo X R4 from Gassner Motorsport. Therefore, they already knew that the Rallye was among the fastest of this year's DRM (Deutsche Rallye Meisterschaft). A look at the valuation examinations confirmed this once again. The goal was: "We don't want to hide here. We hardly stand a chance to catch Ruben Zeltner in his Porsche on this route, but we will try everything and give our best," the 25-year-old Bavarian reported before his start at the coast of the Baltic Sea.Saturday morning at 7:30 AM, the participants were sent from the start at the Lensterstrand to their first race over close to 27 WP kilometres. In the subsequent service, Hermann jr. reported: "It is terribly difficult to estimate the grip, since it changes from curve to curve. Additional dust liners are not helpful, as you know. Generally, we are happy with a 3rd overall rank for the moment, but of course we will try to improve a lot in the next turn. I am already looking forward to the Powerstage at the Putlos military training area. It doesn't really fit our vehicle well, but it's great fun!".Unfortunately, this announcement was rendered void after another approx. 16 WP kilometres. The technology devil struck. Mayrhofer says: "Just before the exit from the 15 km round course, we lost our oil pressure and thus our power. The only thing we could do was park our Mitsubishi by the side of the lane."Gassner jr. summarises: "It is too bad that the long trip was all in vain and the Baltic Sea sends two such unlucky fellows back home. This just doesn't seem to be our season. We won't cease to fight for the DRM vice champion's title, though."True to the motto of "Now more than ever", the young team will participate in its next race for the German Rallye championships at the Litermont Rallye in Saarlouis on 20 September. Their utmost goal is to collect as many points as possible to return to place two in the ranking table.
